Our Love Story: Part 8 | The First Date

"Here's the thing about this love story of ours. Its long. And drawn out. And mushy-gushy. And even a bit cheesy. But it's true. And I've decided to take my time writing it, capturing all the special details of those moments I never want to forget. So if mushy-gushy, cheesy love stories aren't your thing, I totally get that. Just know that I'm writing this as a gift - to my family, and my children, and their future children - and also, for [Parker] and me - so that on those days when the kids are screaming, the laundry is overflowing and the bills are rolling in...on those days when it all just seems so hard, we'll have this to remind us of those first moments when we fell in love. And if sappy, detail ridden love stories are your thing, well then you've come to the right place." -Ashley Stock

After having said no to Parker asking me out a few times, naturally, he stopped asking.. So when I finally realized that I liked him and wanted to date him, I knew I needed to trick him into asking me out again... which I really believe I did but he is convinced that it was all his idea - mwahaha my plan all along ;)

Our first date was planned for April 9th. Just before Parker knocked on our apartment door, my roommate and I were sitting in our room and she said to me, "Are you going to kiss Parker tonight?! I just know you are going to kiss him tonight." And I told her over and over, "Absolutely not!" And I truly believed that I wouldn't.

When Parker knocked on the door, my roommate, (a little overwhelmed by what she really, truly believed was going to happen - that I would kiss this guy that I had refused to date - I think) decided to headbutt Parker upon opening the door hahahaha it still makes me laugh so hard when I think about it!

When we got in his car, Parker handed me some papers that said 'First Date Survey.' They were full of survey questions about little insignificant things that we had talked about during our Skype, Facebook, texting, and study sessions. For example: One of the questions was whether or not I would help a cat if it was stuck in a tree... Now we had talked about the fact that I don't like animals so I probably wouldn't help the cat (sorry cat lovers). This really surprised me! I didn't think that he would really listen to all of those stupid little things that I was telling him, just to keep the conversation going a little bit longer, but he did. And he remembered them! I loved this so much about him!

He parked the car and ran into one of the other Heritage Halls buildings to print off our tickets to the event that we would be attending. As he left me in the car, he had turned on what he called the 'Date with Chelan playlist' which had some nice romantic music lol.

When Parker came back to the car with his tickets, he handed them to me so I could see what we event were going to and to my utter astonishment (seriously, I was SO surprised) we were going to the BYU Ballroom dance concert at the Marriott Center. You guys, the men in my family do not like sitting through events like this unless my sisters, or my mom or I am in them. And even then, they don't like watching the dances that don't have a family member involved and that's the mentality that I was used to from men. To have Parker plan something that was so ME was amazing to me! I was floored that he would take what I enjoyed into consideration when planning our date because the other few dates that I had been on were to things that they guys wanted to do. Well played, Parker David, well played!

After the concert, Parker didn't want to take me home yet, and I didn't want to go home, either. We were both having so much fun! So we decided to go get slurpees. While we were driving to the 711, "You'll Be In My Heart" by Phil Collins started playing from the playlist so I mentioned how much I loved the movie Tarzan. This led to us going to Walmart so we could buy Tarzan to watch it together to keep the date going even longer. Well we saw Krispy Kreme donuts along the way so we couldn't not stop there, too! I got the original glazed donut and Parker got a maple bar (gotta document this stuff for when we get old and forget). While at Walmart, we got distracted by the other options and ended up getting a combo pack of The Sandlot 1 & 2, instead.

Back at Parker's apartment, we watched all of The Sandlot and we still didn't want the night to end so we started The Sandlot 2 immediately after. At some point during the movies, there was some cuddling happening, and then hand holding.. We had gotten to the point where we were talking more than watching and near the end of the second movie, for who knows what reason, we were talking about Steve Irwin.. And I remember that Parker's face was very close to mine and he was looking at me. I was looking at the TV pretending to watch the movie, but in my head I was thinking, "If I just turn to look at him, he's gonna kiss me."
