Happy Easter and a little Personal Progress

Happy Easter weekend, everyone! I hope you are having a grand time searching for Easter eggs, eating way too much chocolate, coloring some hard-boiled eggs, not going to see the Easter Bunny bc he's creepier than anything else in this world, and most importantly, celebrating the amazing sacrifice of Jesus Christ and His resurrection, aaaaaaand watching General Conference with your loved ones! What a great weekend, right?

If you don't know what General Conference is, it's only one of the greatest weekends of the year where the leaders of the LDS church speak to the members for an entire weekend of spiritual, uplifting goodness. It helps you refocus your life and priorities on what's really important and there's just so much good that is shared! You can click HERE to tune in!

As some of you know, my calling in my ward right now is the Young Women's President. Dun dun dun..... and one of the things I love most about the Young Women's program is the Personal Progress program. It's basically a program to help women become the best that they can be and to help us grow closer to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ along the way. Once a month, the Young Women of our ward get together to work on Personal Progress and this last month we decided that we were going to work specifically on Knowledge Value Experience #2. It says:

"In your journal list talents you have and others you would like to develop. Read Matthew 25:14–30. Learn a new skill or talent that will help you care for your own future family or home (for example, playing the piano, singing, budgeting, time management, cooking, sewing, or child care). Share with your family, class, or Young Women leader what you have learned."

I chose to work on sewing. I have a lot of skills and activities that I would love to dedicate more time to/learn how to do (like cross-stitching, photography, scrapbooking, journaling, golfing etc) and sewing is one of the things that I've been wanting to try for a long time now. I haven't sewn anything since home ec class in junior high so to say I was nervous was an understatement. However, I'm working on not being a hypocritical YW leader and doing what I say I'm going to do so once I committed to this, I knew I couldn't back out. I headed to Pinterest and found this tutorial for a skirt that looked pretty easy from one of my favorite bloggers, went to Hobby Lobby to pick up the supplies and gave it a whirl. I'm pretty dang proud of myself. I only had to use my seam ripper twice before I finally got it right and I wore the skirt to church the next day and it didn't fall apart so, yay! Just don't look too close, ok?! :)

Also, a ginormous thank you to the amazing Brittany Lowry for taking these photos and making my skirt (and me) look good! She's so talented!

Shoes: Old Navy. They're old but Old Navy has such a good shoe selection right now! Go check it out here!
Denim Jacket: Forever 21
T-shirt: Old Navy (really old) but I just got a couple of their 'boyfriend' t-shirts yesterday and I'm loving them!

Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and enjoy celebrating this special holiday in whatever way you choose. He lives!

My Daily Commute

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #Froster #FlavoredFrozenFun #CollectiveBias

I live about 25 minutes away from the dance studio that I work at 5 days a week so I spend quite a bit of time in the car. Four out of five of those days I leave my apartment around 3:30 pm which is right around the time that I need a lil pick me up snack or beverage because it's not quite dinner time but lunch has already past, ya know? I often find myself making a super quick pit stop at the Circle K down the street and treating myself to, well, a treat! And with the weather getting warmer (hallelujah!) there's nothing like the NEW Sweetos™ Froster to cool off with while I drive! Queue the country music and I can almost imagine it's summer!

Lucky for you and me, Circle K currently has a sweet deal happening. Woohoo! For a limited time only you can have a Sweetos combo for only $2.50 when you buy Sweetos™ Froster & Cheetos® Sweetos™. Sweetos™ Froster is an exclusive and limited time offer only found at Circle K. Yes please!

I <3 Circle K. Is it weird to love a gas station/convenience store so much? They have the best deals on snacks and drinks and they are always speedy fast! The Cheetos® Sweetos™ are even shaped like Easter eggs so you can quickly stop at Circle K for a last minute Easter basket goodie if you’re always running behind like me!

So take two minutes out of your day (because that's all you'll need) and go treat yourself to this sweet deal and some Flavored Frozen Fun. You totally deserve it!

What is your go-to snack/drink combo for your daily commute? Also, I’m in need of some new music to listen to in the car so send me your favorite driving tunes. I think my vocal chords need a little break from belting The Greatest Showman since Christmas… ;).

Thanks for stopping by today, y’all! Have a hoppy Easter with your Eggscelent Combo from Circle K! #Froster #FlavoredFrozenFun

Hard yes and hard no trends!

I've read a few posts from friends and fellow bloggers about what trends they are loving and hating right now and I always find them so interesting so I thought it would be fun to do a post like that of my own!

Trends that I'm saying a hard NO to:

+ Cold shoulder tops. I am not a fan. I hate it when I'm shopping and I reach for the cutest fabric/pattern on the rack and oh, there are no shoulders... No thanks.

+ Velvet. The feeling of velvet gives me the chills. I hate touching it more than just about anything. Even just thinking about touching it creeps me out. HARD NO! I can hardly even look at this picture without my skin crawling...

+ Pistachio nails or stiletto nails. I know, I know.. pistachio nails aren't really a thing but the picture below is hilarious so that's what I'm calling them. This trend kind of gives me the heebie-jeebies. How do people function with nails that go well past their fingers?

Trends I am loving right now:

+ Wide-legged pants or culottes! I'm not quite sure how to style these, thank goodness we have Pinterest, right? And I feel like you have to have just the right outfit and fit for these to work so I'm searching for the perfect pair! They look so comfy and cute and classy and perfect for Spring and Summer!
+ Statement earrings! I think this is such a fun way to bring some color and pizazz into an outfit! Besides my wedding ring, earrings are my favorite piece of jewelry. I'm trying to venture out from my standard pearl earrings that I wear almost every day.

+ Neck/hair scarves. These little accents are so stinkin' cute. I love people's creativity with scarves now with adding them to top knots, braids, wearing them as headbands, shoelaces, bracelets, belts, and around the neck. It is such a cute accessory!

Are we on the same page with these trends? What trends are you loving and hating?

How We Wore It | Spring Sleeves

This month's How We Wore It post is all about sleeves and SPRING! Bell Sleeves and bell bottoms, for me! I love 3 things about this outfit:

1. The flared jeans. I never thought I would be into the flared jeans look after they went out of style but they are coming back and I'm in love!

2. Bell sleeves make me feel all sorts of girly and feminine and beautiful.

3. I also am loving color. I've always loved wearing bright and bold colors - I get that from my mom - sometimes I've felt like I need to wear neutrals and only neutrals because that's what's popular but I'm feeling the color right now! This sweater was one of my favorites over the holidays but I'm really loving it for spring, too! But alas, the first day of Spring is a total crock because we woke up to a few inches of snow..... I don't want to talk about it.

Be sure to check out how my friends are featuring their Spring sleeves via the links below!

This spot is usually very secluded which is why I take photos here almost every time but someone just walked by and it was so awkward!

Pants: Gap

Some other bell sleeve options I'm loving!

The best health advice I've ever received

Why is it that when someone we love and that we know loves us back says something like "you look good" we don't believe them? Is it because they are our spouse or our mom and we feel like they have to say those things because they love us?

Over Christmas break, one of my best friends told me that I look good and that I've always been fit and for some reason, my eyes got a little misty over her comment. I'm not sure why her saying that to me made me believe it about myself but since she said that, I have been able to look at myself in the mirror differently and see that I look good. Isn't that weird?

Anyway, please know that I'm not posting this fishing for compliments. Please know that that is by no means my intention with this post. I'm posting this because it makes me want to never hold back a good thought about someone else. That compliment that my bestie gave me has stuck with me for months and has changed my entire mindset and how I see myself and you know what? She probably doesn't even know that she made an impact with her nice comment. Our words have power and so do our thoughts! When I'm teaching dance, I no longer see how 'big' my thighs are or how bloated my stomach is (ok sometimes I still see how bloated I get mostly because I can feel it and it's uncomfortable haha) but I now see that I'm strong and healthy and able and I look good! And it's motivating me to make healthy choices!

About a week ago I posted on my Instagram story asking 'If you could give one piece of health/fitness/nutrition advice, what would it be?' and boy did y'all deliver with some great tips and tricks! I wanted to share my favorite out of all of these bits of gold that were shared with me since it relates to this whole health theme we have going on here and that is the advice my friend Brittany gave to me. She said, "Take it one day at a time. You can do anything for one day." How true is that? I love this advice so much!

So now I've made a goal to do just that. I'm going to take it one day at a time and after a certain number of days, if I've kept with it, my reward is a new pair of Lululemon Align pants because that's some mighty good motivation if you ask me! Help me decide which pair to get! I already have the black, midnight navy, and dark emerald green colors :).

What are some health goals you have? It's about that time of year where we've all fallen off of our New Years resolution high, right? Let's get back on that track together!
